MIDDLE ATLAS - MOULAY YACOUB

Moulay Yacoub is a watering place located 22 km to the north west of Fez, in a quiet landscape dotted with valleys. Berber culture and the culture of Fez blend together in this venue.
Moulay Yacoub is also near the cities of Meknes and Ifrane, and the ruins of Volubilis.
The hot waters of Moulay Yacoub, due to their mineral content, temperature and outflow, are the largest and most beneficial in Morocco for their therapeutic properties. This is hyper thermal water, actually seawater with high sulfur content.  This place was already well known in the 1930s when it hosted such famous writers as André Gide and Henry de Montherlant.
When oozing out of the ground, the waters of Moulay Yacoub are crystal clear and send off a highly characteristic smell of sulfur (sulfur hydrogen) and is very salty and with high sulfur content.
It juts out naturally at 54°C at the tap, and is thought to come from a depth of 1500 meters.
